Kick-off meeting for the 2nd funding phase of the Manchot Research Group AI

For the official kick-off of the second funding phase of the Manchot Research Group "Decision Making with the Help of Artificial Intelligence Methods", the speakers Prof. Dr Klaus Pfeffer and Prof. Dr Martin Mauve and the Scientific Director Dr Saskia Reither invited all contributors to an exchange in the Selma Meyer Lecture Hall last Wednesday - of course in compliance with the current Corona regulations.

Prof. Pfeffer and Prof. Mauve introduced the event with a review of the past funding phase and the work conducted in the research group and at HeiCAD. Afterwards, scientists from each of the four use cases - in addition to the areas of health, business and politics, the use case law has been added in the new funding phase - presented their current research with an outlook on the next few years.

Prof. Dr Rainer Haas and Prof. Dr Klaus Pfeffer introduced the use case health and explained how AI can help in stem cell transplantation to analyse the microbiome of patients. Anna Rommerskirchen, Philipp Spohr and Sebastian Scharf then elaborated on the machine learning pipeline with which data from haematological patients can be processed and used for prediction. Prof. Dr Gunnar Klau and Prof. Dr Alexander Dilthey presented perspectives for the new funding phase, e.g. the inclusion of longitudinal data and visualisation in dialogue with medical professionals. Prof. Dr Dr Svenja Caspers introduced a project in which AI methods can be used to segment and classify individual cells taken from bone marrow.

After the introduction to the use case business by Prof. Dr Barbara E. Weißenberger, Prof. Dr Stefan Conrad presented the work package on the use of AI in Financial Management. Lynn Schmodde devoted herself to the use of AI in human resource management and the question of employee acceptance. Afterwards, Dr Dr habil. Peter Kotzian discussed the topic of the behavioural economics of AI use in companies and Prof. Dr Peter Kenning looked at AI use in companies from the perspective of neuroeconomics.

Jun.-Prof. Dr Marc Ziegele took over the introduction to the use case politics, after which Dr Carina Weinmann, Dr Dennis Frieß and Maike Behrendt presented results on the influence of AI-supported communication spaces on opinion formation and research on the use of AI in online discussions.

The event was rounded off by the introduction by Jun.-Prof. Dr Johann Justus Vasel to the new use case law, which of course overlaps with all other use cases, and the subsequent presentations by Andreas Müller, who discussed, among other things, the AI Act Proposal of the European Commission and the associated classification of AI applications into four risk categories, and Jonas Carstens, who addressed ethical questions about discrimination by AI.
