On January 22, 2020, researchers from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf from the fields of computer science, medicine, economics and social sciences were guests in the NRW state parliament. They provided answers to urgent questions on the topic of Artificial Intelligence and discussed the opportunities and limits of AI for solving current challenges together with members of the state parliament.
AI, big data, self-learning algorithms - such phenomena are now indispensable in the discussion about the progress of society and the solution of pressing political issues. But what is behind these terms and the "promises of salvation" often associated with them on the one hand and a fundamental unease on the other? Will medical care, entrepreneurial action and parliamentary work change because artificial intelligence takes decisions away from us? In which areas is AI already being used today and which future scenarios are realistic and desirable?
