EAST CITIES

In the interdisciplinary German-Chinese project EAST-CITIES, TU Braunschweig, Tongji University Shanghai, L3S research centre, HHU and GESIS are pursuing a data-driven and AI-based approach to the study of sustainable urban development in eastern China, one of the regions most affected by urbanisation worldwide. The project partners are investigating the ecological, social and economic interrelationships between different types of settlements in and between cities in the Eastern Pacific region of China, their impacts in terms of land use, mobility, resource and energy consumption and how these can be qualified and optimized in terms of sustainable regional development. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Stefan Dietze, GESIS/HHU contributes expertise in the acquisition, processing and analysis of research data using methods from AI, machine learning and knowledge graph-based data integration to the project.
