Applications of Machine Learning to Medical Imaging

Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) in particular, are becoming an increasingly integral part of our lives. ML algorithms have ultimately made great strides in automatically detecting findings, making analysis cheaper and more accessible. ML algorithms can learn to recognize patterns. Since medical imaging often acquires and uses a variety of imaging for analysis, ML algorithms can automatically and quickly analyze this data. Medical imaging includes MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) images, histological sections, and microscopy images. For example, cell culture effects in SARS-CoV-2 infected cells can be detected in experiments (see figure).
