Continuing Education
AI is transforming academic studies, teaching, research, and administration—and with it, the demands placed on everyone who works and studies at HHU. That is why HeiCAD offers a three-part continuing education portfolio that builds on one another and can be flexibly combined:
online self-study courses teach the fundamentals, anytime and anywhere,
specific workshops address the needs of individual target groups and disciplines, and
hands-on courses offer participants the opportunity to work intensively with current AI systems and cutting-edge models.
Common to all formats is our understanding of AI competence: assessing possibilities and limitations, critically evaluating results, and thoughtfully applying AI in one’s own work. This creates a program that establishes a solid foundation and keeps pace with the dynamic development of AI.
Online Self-study Courses by HeiCAD
The online self-study courses serve as an introduction to our portfolio. They provide fundamental knowledge about how AI works, what it can do, and where its limitations lie. Participants learn at their own pace, anytime and anywhere, thereby building a solid foundation for a thoughtful approach to AI and for the advanced workshops and hands-on courses.

Specific Workshops
Our specialized workshops build on foundational knowledge and expand upon it with a focus on specific requirements. They are specifically designed for faculty, researchers, and staff, and address issues relevant to individual disciplines and fields of work. Through collaborative discussion, participants explore concrete application scenarios, discuss opportunities and risks, and develop strategies for their own daily work.
We offer these workshops upon request. Graduate schools, JUNO, and research consortia—such as Collaborative Research Centers (SFB)—can book them flexibly for their members.
NEW: Hands-on Courses
The hands-on courses focus on practical application. Participants work directly with current AI systems and cutting-edge models on their own research questions and projects. They learn to use tools effectively, critically evaluate results, and design workflows in a practical way. This leads to in-depth expertise that goes far beyond mere experimentation.
This program is currently under development. We will provide updates in a timely manner before it launches.
