Admission
Local admission restrictions with a selection procedure (ONC) apply. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of available study places, a selection is made on the basis of the final grade of the first study programme. If grades are the same, places on the ranking list are decided by lot. According to the "Rules for Allocation of Study Places of North Rhine-Westphalia" (Vergabeverordnung NRW) some study places are reserved for suitable applicants from non-EU/EEA states (i.e. outside of European Union, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway).
- Application deadline is July 15th!

Please DO NOT send us an email asking us about your chances to be accepted. We get many hundreds of applications and can not individually assess your documents before the application period ends. You will find all information regarding eligibility and chances of acceptance either in our FAQ or we do not have the information at all.
Eligibility
The course has restricted admission. A prerequisite for starting your studies is a first university degree, with the required necessary background education as determined in the exam regulations.
In brief, you need a Bachelor's degree in either Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology), Engineering (e.g. Electric, Mechanical, Computer Engineering...), Economy, or a related area. The curriculum include modules on one and higherdimensional Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Stochastics I that together comprise the equivalent of 30 ECTS and were taught at a level that corresponds to the level for computer scientists at HHU (see the FAQ for details). The examination board determines whether you fulfil the entrance requirements.
The final grade of your bachelor's degree must be between 1.0 and 2.5 with respect to the German grading system. You can convert grades to the German system by using the 'Bavarian Formula' (see right hand side).
English Skills
The master program is entirely taught in English. You need to prove that your English skills are sufficient to follow the courses. The proof can be given by providing one of the following language certificates:
a) Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL), Paper-based (min 500 points), Computer-based (min 200 points), or Internet-based Test ((IBT as well as IBT@Home, min 80 points)
b) IELTS test with a score of at least 6.0
c) Cambridge B2 First Certificate, formerly known as Cambridge English: First (FCE)
d) Cambridge Linguaskill B2 (or C1)
e) German Abitur certificate, showing that English has been constantly taken as a subject and passed with the grade of "sufficient" up to the end of the qualification level 1 (grade 11 at G8-Abitur, otherwise grade 12)
f) Proof that you obtained an academic degree (bachelor or master) that was taught entirely in English. Your university must provide a "medium of instruction" certificate to confirm this, or it must be stated clearly on your transcript of records.
